Six weeks of three hour sessions with a wonderful group of writers. What emerged was an explosion of discoveries about how my mother’s death impacted me. A house introduced itself to me and invited me to take its pictures with my camera to explore the many metaphors within the canvas of her wall and the accompanying twining growth of the wisteria vine up her sides. The writing class brought clarification to the emerging subconscious recognition of conflicts needing resolution and seeking expression through written words. The Portfolio Class at the Maine Media Workshops with Brenton Hamilton brought comprehension that a portfolio is not a set of “best hits” but a prolonged study of one topic or one place. I was able to blend the two arts together for a final video slideshow later in 2013.
